An Sruthán

A wood-fired sauna and natural spring-fed plunge, hidden in the Wicklow countryside.

An Sruthán

The little stream.

An Sruthán means “the little stream.” Hidden among the trees in Hawkstown Upper, just outside Wicklow Town, our one-hour experience moves between a wood-fired sauna, naturally cold spring water and the stillness of the landscape around them.

Heat. Cold. Rest. Repeat, entirely at your own pace.

The Three Elements

Fire. Water. Earth.

Fire

A wood-fired sauna, heated by hand throughout the day.

Water

A natural plunge, continually replenished by springs rising from deep beneath the land.

Earth

Granite, trees, orchard, ferns and woodland. The landscape is part of the experience.

Your Hour

Heat. Cold. Rest. Repeat.

Public sessions run for a full hour, giving you time for around three unrushed cycles between sauna, cold water and rest, all at your own pace.

01

Heat

Settle into the wood-fired sauna and let the heat build around you.

02

Cold

Step into the spring-fed plunge or cool off beneath the outdoor showers.

03

Rest

Take a moment beneath the trees. Breathe, talk, nature bathe or simply be still.

04

Repeat

Return to the heat when you're ready and begin the cycle again.

The moments between rounds matter just as much as the heat itself.

The Elements

Deep heat. Living water.

At the heart of An Sruthán, a wood-fired sauna burns at around 90–100°C. Steps away, the spring-fed plunge is continually replenished by water rising from around 15 feet beneath the ground. Two natural extremes, brought together in one place.

Heat drawn from fire. Cold drawn from the earth.

Wood-Fired Sauna

Deep heat, softened by stone.

Spring-Fed Plunge

Cold, moving, drawn from the land.

Dúchas

Stories in the landscape.

Irish folklore has always lived in water, trees and stone. Explore four traditions that find natural echoes throughout An Sruthán: the Salmon of Knowledge, the Fairy Tree, the Children of Lir and Ogham.
